How Consulting Works
Coactive leadership and creating a coactive organization goes beyond the common methods of values and goal setting to The Next Level in personal and organizational performance. It will guide your staff in working together to achieve the organizations goals and objectives, and help people take responsibility for guiding their own behavior in their own relationships. These principles serve us to help each other in service of, not in fixing.
The basic principles are:
1. Everyone is
naturally creative, effective, and whole
This
is a departure from the conventional work place assumption that we have
limited skill sets and that people need someone else to hold them
accountable. If a person is held and treated as naturally creative,
effective, and whole their performance and attitudes will be in
alignment with their treatment.
2.
Everyone’s whole life is included
Along
with the first principle, all our interactions are guided by the fact
that the people we interact with, whether they be customers, employees
or supervisors are more than an employee or boss with a job to do. They
are people who are scared, brave, lovers, friends, who have dreams and
doubts and deserve to be held and treated as fully human always.
3.
Designed and shared alliance
An
alliance is more than just the company's mission, product or task, or
job description. It incorporates the values and principles into
everything we do, into the systems and procedures we design and use,
into our relationships and how we work together and interact.
The depth goes beyond words and into Co-action.
Co-action means to act or work together. Most organizations are run in a hierarchical format where accountability is to someone above and responsibility is delegated. This is the standard directive type of organizations today, not a Co-active Organization. The reason for this goes to the old theory X that people can not be trusted. The old logic was that since people are fallible and make mistakes they therefore could not be trusted. The price of this is that few of us are willing to take risks at work. The price of a mistake is held against you, rather than learned from. By holding to the principles of Co-active leadership people are able to stretch and take appropriate risks in a healthy environment. They are also able to help others stretch.
Can you imagine a workplace where people were supported in learning from their mistakes instead of hiding them?
Where they can express themselves rather than censor their thoughts and feelings so they "fit in".
Think about it! If we are safe to make mistakes and not be punished, what could we not accomplish together.
